The Website
We wanted to be able to share as much of this trip with our fellow geocachers and friends. To achieve that, we are leveraging some technology from various places to make that a reality.
- The “Main Page” contains a rolling update of our Instagram accounts. Anytime a new photo is uploaded by any of us, it shows up in this feed.
- The “Last Known Location” map and our location history is powered by Followmee.com. Their app is running on Zor’s iPhone and location information is sent back to their system every 30 minutes. Our website pulls the most recently uploaded location and displays it in the widget. The historical information is a combination of the history data pulled from Followmee as well as our own cached data.
- We are also using a combination of Youtube LIVE and Facebook LIVE to broadcast several “live” events while we are on the road.
- Our intention is to try to stick to Youtube as those will get embedded in our news feed on the main page.
For the trip itself, we’ve got a pile of technology loaded into our car to assist us with everything we will need. This includes:
- 4 handheld GPS units
- A combination of Garmin Oregon, GPSMAP, and eTrex units
- 4 mobile phones with unlimited data access
- Both Android and iPhone devices in use
- Tablet computing devices
- Both Android and iPad devices are in use
- Laptop computers
- Still photography cameras
- Also capable of shooting video
- GoPro action cameras
